The Wild and Crazy Side of Steve Martin

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978)

Martin's feature film debut was as Dr. Maxwell Edison singing "Maxwell's Silver Hammer." The vaudevillian number, and madcap medic character, provided Martin with the perfect entrée into Hollywood. Critic Janet Maslin felt his "unhinged rendition" of the song was one of the "three brief sequences good enough to put the rest of the picture to shame."
